Is there a list of all RobotLegs utilities somewhere? If not, I really think that would be great/necessary.
Once in a while I stumble by accident on a utility which really makes life easier, but it would be great to have a central place to keep an eye on.

I agree with you on this.
There should be a central place for such things.

    Rasheed started this:
    http://www.robotlegs.org/community/
but it hasn’t been updated in a while.

    Joel added this:
    http://github.com/robotlegs/robotlegs-framework/wiki/Utilities-and-...
which makes sense for utilities accepted by the robotlegs team.

    I suggested this:
    http://knowledge.robotlegs.org/discussions/suggestions/32-utilities...

A new category has been added:
    http://knowledge.robotlegs.org/discussions/resources
This is a great addition, but many people who have written an article, made a demo or utility don’t even know about it.

    My suggestion:
Add a new discussion (sticky??) under Resources, where everyone can just mention a link to a good article, tutorial, demo or utility, with a short description.

It would be a long list, but at least in one place.
It would be great if we could rate them, but I think that’s not possible with tender.

Then the best of them could make it to the official Robotlegs-Wiki?

    What do you think?

Hi Ondina - I've created a new Category called "Examples" which I'm gradually shifting relevant threads over to... If you had time to add some of your huge list of examples and tutorials etc in to that it would be fantastic.

Either way - it should gradually grow into what you and Camille were seeing a need for.

    Thanks!

    Hey Stray:)

Thank you for dealing with this aspect of the framework.
I’m glad if I can help.
As you can read in the other thread
    ( http://knowledge.robotlegs.org/discussions/suggestions/32-utilities... ), I started working on a github list
    https://github.com/Ondina/robotlegs-framework/wiki

see the links under Community Resources (recommended by users)

I even started working on an RL-based AIR app using SQLite or/and plain XML to store the links and to make it possible for users to add new links, edit them, comment them...

But I stopped, because I wasn’t sure there was a real need for it, and as you know from your own experience such things are time consuming :)

Now, since you also think there is value in creating a centralized place for utilities, articles, examples and such, let’s talk about the best format for it and the easiest way for everyone to contribute with their own collection of links. And also about a way to encourage the rl-users to contribute to the repository.

At the moment there are 2 alternatives

    1. editing the robotlegs-wiki on github
    2. adding links in here ( robotlegs-knowledge-base)

You created the new category “Examples”, but there is already a category “Resources”.
So demos and examples would be under “Examples” and everything else under Resources?

The structure I used on github:
    1. Tutorials
    2. Demos
    3. Utilities
    4. Tools
    5. Tips and Tricks
    6. Presentations
    7. Projects Using Robotlegs

That’s not perfect either, but it could be improved.

Ideally, a database-driven app on the framework’s server would make it much easier to manage and maintain the resources, and to follow a certain structure (categories) and naming convention, like in author, title, description, link, tags, etc. Also it could avoid duplication of entries, make searching and sorting easier, and so on.
I know that’s not possible though.

I’m willing to continue adding the links I have to a place or another, but it will happen only gradually.

I hope you’ll get what I’m saying. I’m just having one of those days, when English isn’t my best friend :)
Let me know what you think.

    Thanks
    Ondina

    Thanks Ondina,

I expect we'll re-consider the website as part of the general review process we're going through over the next few months as we begin to focus on version 2. You're right that we need to improve it!

So - for now, it's really just Examples that I was thinking of - people often post "how do I get started?" kind of questions, and I don't think they automatically see 'Resources' as including 'Examples', hence I've split it off.

Gradual is fine - it was really just to make it obvious to people arriving for the first time that there are some examples they can look at.

    Thanks,

    Stray
